South Bay Costco Coronavirus Outbreak Probed: Report

"It's a very big mess," an employee tells NBC Bay Area.

SUNNYVALE, CA — Health officials are investigating a COVID-19 outbreak at a South Bay Costco store that has sickened at least nine employees, NBC Bay Area reports.

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department told NBC Bay Area that the Sunnyvale Costco store on Lawrence Station Road has been following appropriate sanitation protocols and has isolated infected employees.

The company posted a note on a bulletin board at the Sunnyvale store confirming that nine employees had tested positive for the coronavirus according to the report.

Employees learned of a confirmed case earlier this month by word of mouth but weren’t made aware of the extent of the outbreak until July 18, the report said.

"(It's scary) because you're not showing any symptoms, but you come into contact with it," the employee said. "So that's going through my head and it's going through the head of a lot of employees — they don't know if they have it or not."
