South Bay Medical Workers Take A Knee In George Floyd Tribute
Medical workers took a knee for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the time a Minneapolis police pressed his knee into George Floyd's neck.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — More than 750 healthcare workers throughout Santa Clara County observed a moment of silence Wednesday by taking a knee in a show of support for the widespread call for action in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in police custody.
Physicians, nurses, and other care providers and staff gathered at multiple sites to observe the moment of silence for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the time Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck. Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, St. Louise Regional Hospital, O’Connor Hospital and Valley Health Centers located throughout Santa Clara County held the event simultaneously at 12:30 p.m.

“Inequality and racism have a significant impact on the health of an individual, their family and our community. It is important that we gather in solidarity for action and change in our community and across the nation,” said Paul Lorenz, Chief Executive Officer of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics.
“Staff and physicians at our hospitals, clinics, and health centers observed a moment of silent reflection or took a knee to support efforts for racial equality and social justice.”
