South Bay Shooting Victim Dies, Cops Reclassify Case As Homicide

GILROY — One of the two victims of a shooting earlier this week in Gilroy has died and the case has been reclassified as a homicide, police said.

The victim was identified as Robert Marks, 21 of Gilroy, police said.

The incident follows a string of three shootings earlier this month that left one dead.

Officers responded Sunday night at around 11:50 p.m. to the area of 8th and Hanna streets after hearing shots fired according to police.

Several callers reported hearing gunshots in the same area.

Officers arriving on the scent found evidence of a shooting in the area, but nobody involved in the shooting was located according to police.

Shortly afterward, two men arrived the emergency room of a local hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.

One of the victims was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, police said. The other victim was expected to survive.
