South Bay Woman Killed In Freeway Crash

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A South Bay woman was killed in a crash on Interstate Highway 680 in the Pacheco area of Contra Costa County on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 20-year-old Milpitas woman's name has not yet been released. She was the passenger in a car driven by a 22-year-old Milpitas man who was hospitalized with major injuries according to the CHP.

The solo-car crash was reported at 10:24 a.m. on northbound Highway 680 south of the junction with state Highway 4.

Officers arrived and determined that a 2003 Nissan 350Z veered from traffic lanes and struck the concrete center divider, then veered across all lanes of traffic and into a concrete sound wall right of the highway, CHP officials said.

The woman died at the scene according to the CHP.

The man driving the Nissan was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment of major injuries according to the CHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
