Suspect In Fatal South Bay Hit-And-Run Sought

An adult male pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle at around 2 a.m. in the area of McLaughlin Avenue and Algiers Street in San Jose.

SAN JOSE — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run collision early Monday morning, Sgt. Enrique Garcia said in a news release.

Police responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at around 2 a.m. in the area of McLaughlin Avenue and Algiers Street in San Jose.

The suspect was driving southbound in the left lane on McLaughlin Avenue north of Algiers Street when their vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian according to a preliminary investigation, Garcia said.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. He was not in the crosswalk at the time of the collision, Garcia said.

The suspect fled the scene and has not been identified, Garcia said.

The traffic fatality is San Jose’s 23rd of this year and the 10th fatal accident in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after they confirm the victim’s identity and notify next of kin.
