The Demise of the Los Gatos Arlington Hotel
The Main Street establishment was the place to savor fine dining and a view of Los Gatos Creek in the late 1800s.
Prior to 1891 the Arlington Hotel was located on the north side of Main Street next to the old bridge overlooking the Los Gatos Creek.
The hotel dining room was located below street level and diners took pleasure in watching the rushing current while enjoying their meals.
This sketch of East Main Street in the 1880s appears in George G. Bruntz' The History of Los Gatos. The Arlington Hotel, on the right, was a casualty of the 1891 fire that destroyed most of the wooden buildings on Main Street.
