Ever since the Templar Sports shop first hit the town’s consciousness, I’ve had people from both sides of the gun/anti-gun extremes try to pin me down as to what my stand is. I’ve made a stubborn effort not to take a stand at all (I wrote a non-committal blog post titled “My Armory” back in July of 2012 - click here to view it.). As with so many controversies, I find this one very distasteful. It’s like, what I would normally consider to be pretty reasonable, fair-minded people pick up on an issue and just go bonkers over it. They yell and scream and get unreasonable about the particular issue and condemn you if you don’t side with them and support their unreasonableness just as loudly and unreasonably as they, themselves promote their position. Hey, get away from me, I’m not the crazy one here, at least I’m letting you speak your peace without a whole lot of judgement. You could at least afford me the same courtesy. It’s not the issue that concerns me, it’s not even the message, it’s the delivery that I take exception to. Just get out of my face! I DO NOT HAVE TO THINK OR ACT THE SAME WAY YOU DO!!!!!!!!
I walked past two adjacent newspaper stands this morning, and as I glanced at them, I was frozen in place. Here were two local papers, the San Jose Mercury and the San Francisco Chronicle, headlining the same story. The headlines, themselves, seemed to be in absolute opposition to each other. Both stated that the Governor of California acted on a batch of gun measures sent to him by the legislature, however, one paper’s headline insinuates that the Governor is against gun restrictions and the other insinuates that he’s in favor of the restrictions. In reading the next few paragraphs, we find that the Governor vetoed seven of the proposed gun related laws but approved eleven others. I would think that because of this split, the Governor didn’t favor either side, pro-gun or anti-gun . . .
