We all know why the Sunday paper is always so thick and heavy, it’s because of all the fancy advertising. It’s pretty much all pretty slick, corporate stuff. While I’m very into classy, understated graphic design, the slick, corporate stuff in the Sunday paper turns me off. In fact, I usually try to avoid buying anything from the big, corporate stores. Like we see in the shops along Santa Cruz Avenue, I try to “Buy Local!!!” (I added the exclamation marks).
So, this episode of the Town Crier’s blog is going to be like a Art Bridge Sunday edition, with funky, prosaic announcements about the goings on of several of our friendly, LOCAL shopkeepers over the next few weeks. No four color, slick, corporate ads here, it’s just plain, old, simple recipe-card type announcements on the electronic bulletin board. All of these places are on North Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos. The number at the end of each of their paragraphs is their address on Santa Cruz Avenue.

Tonight, June 26, Frank Interiors (not on Santa Cruz Avenue but at 9 Montebello Lane) will be hosting a reception for artist Linda Benanati’s amazing “encaustic” paintings. They will be presenting some of the artist’s newest work, including the Jazz series. Snacks and a good time will be at the shop from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
