Unidentified Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Hwy 101 Offramp Near Tully Road Sunday Night

A pedestrian was killed Sunday night after a vehicle exiting a highway in San Jose struck him.

At 9:18 p.m., CHP received a report of a male pedestrian walking in the roadway of U.S. Highway 101, near Tully Road.

As CHP units were en route, they learned that a vehicle had struck the pedestrian, according to CHP officials. The pedestrian was walking east across the northbound off ramp from the highway to Tully Road and collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla, CHP officials said.

Emergency crews located the pedestrian lying in the roadway of the off-ramp. He suffered a broken leg, lacerations and traumatic internal injuries, according to CHP officials. CHP officials closed the off ramp for approximately an hour.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead, CHP officials said.

The 21-year-old Milpitas man who was driving the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene of the crash.

He did not sustain any injuries, CHP officials said. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and CHP officers determined he was not under the influence at the time of the collision.

The pedestrian did not have any identification and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify him and notify his next of kin, according to CHP officials.
