A Denver Broncos team bus was disabled and a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was hit by a vehicle in a collision on U.S. Highway 101 in Sunnyvale Monday afternoon, a CHP officer said.

The security escort was able to avoid a collision, but three buses were unable to stop and ultimately struck each other shortly before 2 p.m., CHP Officer Daniel Hill said.

At the same time, a CHP motorcycle officer was struck by one of the buses as a result of the collision. It was not immediately clear if he was injured, but he was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Hill said.

No one on board the Broncos bus appeared to be injured. One of the buses sustained front-end damage, including a shattered windshield, and could not be driven away.

The Broncos boarded a different bus and left the area, Hill said. The team was all back at their hotel as of about 2:20 p.m., according to team spokesman Patrick Smyth.

Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware posted a photo of the bus crash on Twitter. “To keep the day interesting, we have a small wreck,” Ware wrote. “Looks like everyone is ok though.”

The Broncos will take on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday.
