When I was a mere kitten growing up here in LG things were different (such a compelling opening statement!) Back in those halcyon days the residents here either enjoyed or at least had the shame to PRETEND to enjoy reading books. There were around 5 bookstores in town. Crown, Walden, B. Dalton, the Curious Book Shoppe and the awesome Chanticleer. They were picked off one by one and finally replaced by one mega-store...(RIP Borders). This was quite depressing in terms of the town's apparent eagerness to roll over and allow a monopoly, but in retrospect it beat the alternative. Question: WHAT KIND OF (expletive deleted) TOWN HAS NO BOOKSTORE???? The answer? Either one who can't afford it or one with no demand for one. I think it is fairly clear which category we fall into. For a quick moment I thought that A Cover Story was going to be a bookstore due to it's deceptive name, but alas tis a just a pricey boutique packed with twee collectibles...a true rarity around here! There are enough salons in town to groom every single woman in a 50 mile radius but no bookstores. It is embarrassing and like some bad California cliche'. I insist upon the rectifiction of this immediately. Even if it means sacrificing (sob) one of the eighteen GAP offspring stores that we cherish so much.
