When Is The Happy Hound Opening?

Owner Dan Dresslar says he's optimistic for an end-of-month completion of remodel after March 4 fire destroyed part of popular restaurant.

The Happy Hound owner Dan Dresslar told Los Gatos Patch Tuesday morning that he's hopeful his restaurant will finish reconstruction of a portion of his building destroyed by a March 4 fire by the end of the month.

"I can't give you a specific date, but hopefully in two weeks we can wrap up the repairs," Dresslar said.

A private contractor has been working to fix the back side of the building, 15899 Los Gatos Blvd., he added.

The restaurant, which has been in operation for more than 40 years, will have a new storage cabinet, after the old one went up in flames during the fire that was caused by an electrical appliance malfunctioning.

It's estimated the early morning fire caused $100,000 in property loss, which is being covered by State Farm Insurance.

The Happy Hound is one of the most popular hot-dog places in the South Bay. The dogs come from a company that customizes the recipe for the restaurant.

The menu includes the Happy Hound, a basic dog with sweet relish, diced red onion, tomato and mustard; the Cheese Hound that has cheese added to the basic dog; the Polish Hound; the Mexi Hound served in a tortilla; and a Corn Dog.
