Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. 'We needed this': Madera Police unveil new mobile command center (yourcentralvalley.com) — Madera residents now have a state-of-the-art police mobile command center ready to deploy instantly at major incidents, replacing the old, slow-to-set-up RV unit. The $500,000 vehicle, funded through state grants, offers on-scene dispatching, interview and negotiation rooms, and live drone monitoring, and was already used during Sunday's officer-involved shooting response.
2. Multi-agency investigation for Madera officer-involved shooting (yourcentralvalley.com) — Multiple agencies are now investigating Sunday's officer-involved shooting in Madera, including the state Department of Justice, the Madera County Sheriff's Office, and Madera Police. Their parallel criminal, coroner, and administrative reviews will determine whether any officers face charges and if department policies were followed, with findings eventually going to the District Attorney.
3. K-9 makes discovery in suspected DUI driver's car in Madera, police say (yourcentralvalley.com) — Madera police made two DUI arrests Friday night, one after K-9 Bonnie alerted officers to drugs in a driver's car near Olive and Roosevelt, where cocaine and meth were found. Less than a mile away, another driver was stopped near Sunrise and Knox and arrested for allegedly driving at three times the legal alcohol limit.
4. Fresno Bee Top 25: Tulare Union and Bakersfield drop, while Independence moves up (fresnobee.com) — Madera football fans can look ahead to a big home matchup as Sanger visits Madera on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with the Coyotes sitting at 3-2 and just outside The Fresno Bee's Top 25. The latest rankings recap key Central Section results, including Independence's rise and Bakersfield and Tulare Union's drops, plus a full slate of upcoming games involving several nearby schools.
5. When the vote doesn't count: Calif. voters rejected Madera Co.'s newest casino. Inside the furious legal battle unfolding before it opens. (sjvsun.com) — A large new tribal casino and resort is set to open just north of Madera along Highway 99, promising 2,400 slot machines, 1,500 jobs, and a major new entertainment draw. But the project faces an intense last-minute legal challenge from the Chukchansi tribe, which argues that California's earlier voter rejection means the casino lacks valid state concurrence.
