90-Degree Weather Coming To Malibu

MALIBU, CA — A little more than a week after a cold storm dumped snow in the local mountains and heavy rain across Los Angeles, a major heatwave is bringing temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above normal, and windy weather. A National Weather Service heat advisory will go into effect Wednesday in Malibu, with some parts of the region hitting triple-digit temperatures by Friday.

Malibu is expected to see highs of 87 degrees Wednesday, with winds as high as 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Thursday will see temperatures of 91, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The winds will calm down Friday, but a high of 91 will remain. Temperatures will cool down significantly Friday night, when patchy fog will set in. A high of 74 is expected Saturday, and a high of 68 is expected Sunday.

Despite the high temperatures and winds, no Red Flag Warnings or public safety power shutoffs are scheduled.

"It's a pretty significant heat wave," David Sweet, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service told the Los Angeles Times. "It's not very typical for the first week of April."

Hot temperatures could make residents vulnerable to heat illnesses. As such, residents should stay hydrated and out of the sun and should check on neighbors and relatives throughout the week.

The heatwave is not expected to set temperature records.

Along with gusty winds, the heatwave is expected to cause an elevated fire risk.

"We have gusty winds, high surf, and hot temperatures all on the agenda for the weather this week," the weather service tweeted.
