Aggressive Bees In 'Unavoidable' Numbers Force Closure Of Malibu Hiking Trail
The Park Service plans to disperse the bees, which will make them agitated and a threat to hikers, officials said.

MALIBU, CA — An "unavoidable" concentration of aggressive bees on the Solstice Canyon Trail led the National Park Service to close the area on Monday, according to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Park Service staff plans to work with a bee specialist to disperse the bees — which will make them agitated for up to a week, according to recreation officials.
"Numerous visitor bee stings have been reported, and topography renders the affected area unavoidable," reads a statement.

The hives are concentrated on the main trail, TRW Overlook Trail and at the education shelter structure, located about a half-mile uphill from Dan Blocker Beach.
"The closure will remain in effect until further notice. We will assess the order on an ongoing basis, and the order will be modified or rescinded when conditions warrant," reads the statement.
