At around 10:50 a.m., authorities reported the fire had been extinguished and forward progress was stopped.

Malibu Canyon Road remained completely closed in both directions at Mulholland Highway at that time, according to Malibu city officials.

There were no evacuation orders issued, but officials urged residents prepare "to leave quickly if conditions change."

"We recommend our residents prepare by gathering essential items, including medication, important documents, water and supplies for family members and pets," city officials said in an alert.

Earlier, Malibu city officials said "the city’s fire safety liaisons are on scene and coordinating with LA County Fire, and keeping the Ccty updated. Winds of 15-20 mph are moving the fire north, away from Malibu. No structures threatened, no evacuations currently. Residents should watch for alerts from the city."
