MALIBU, CA — Los Angeles County lifeguards and firefighters worked Saturday to save the life of a swimmer who suffered a cardiac arrest near Las Tunas Beach in Malibu.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was notified at 6:01 p.m. Saturday of a swimmer suffering cardiac arrest in the water off South Pena Road and West Pacific Coast Highway, Engineer Jonathan Torres told City News Service.
Firefighters met up with lifeguards to enter the water and rescue a swimmer, Torres said. The incident description was changed to drowning and cardiac arrest at 6:24 p.m. The patient was en route to a hospital in an ambulance by 6:29 p.m.
Video from the scene showed the patient in a litter being pulled up the rocks, and firefighters performing CPR while preparing the person for transport.
The patient's condition was not immediately available, neither was a description of the person available.
