MALIBU, CA — A $69 million pavement rehabilitation project along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu will begin later this month, bringing weekday construction and potential traffic delays to a stretch of the coastal roadway, Caltrans announced Friday.
Construction will begin Oct. 27 along Pacific Coast Highway, also known as state Route 1, between Malibu Lagoon and the Ventura County line, according to the California Department of Transportation.
Work is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, with at least one traffic lane remaining open in each direction while construction is underway, officials said.
The project will include pavement rehabilitation, upgrades to guardrails, road signs and lighting, improvements to traffic signals and roadway technology, installation of curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and new pavement striping.
Caltrans said the project will also incorporate elements of its Complete Streets program, which is intended to improve safety and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists sharing the roadway.
The work is expected to continue through the winter of 2029-30, with Chumo Construction Inc. of Baldwin Park serving as the contractor.
Residents and businesses near the construction zone may experience noise, vibrations and grinding associated with the work, according to Caltrans.
Motorists were advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes during construction hours.
