Just got back from one of my new favorite places in town...buying a sandwich, and a diet dr. Pepper, and sitting down at the outside seating at Vintage Market at Trancas. I love doing it at night as much as during the day.....the market was glorious tonight...the lighting is so intriguing, artistic, subtle...most markets are lighted like a gymnasium...not a shadow to be found anywhere...not so with the people who designed that Shopping Center...drive by it at night and notice how exquisitely it is lighted....so cool. Otherwise, it looks like there are no buildings there....You can’t even see the outline of the structures at night...such was the thoughtfulness that went into that planning.
C’mon...these guys got this right...100% right....the place is packed on the weekends...I got the best pastrami sandwich west of Katz’s deli in lower east Manhattan. I get it on marbled rye...I have the guy thinly slice pastrami and then he warms it lightly in a pan, add swiss cheese and mustard and it is Michelin worthy.
Before....that whole center was a real clunker, heck even the Starbuck’s (where most people in Malibu live and breath) is totally deluxe now....How’s market was like ”the projects”. I wouldn’t go there ....no offense, but revitalization is so often a good thing....each development should be looked at on it’s own merit, in my opinion.

“Don’t Cross Creek Trancas”--- Not much worry here. This place is authentic...beautifully contextual with surrounding mountains and flora...perfectly scaled......it is Trancas!!!------an original. If people are driving here (many are walking), then they AREN”T driving someplace else. Connect those dots....
It shows how well planned and orchestrated re-development can totally improve a city...for the RESIDENTS. Nobody is driving to Trancas from outside the area just to get a pastrami and swiss or a bag of swiss chard and grapefruit.

Wow, what an improvement.....it’s like getting new copper pipes after you have had rusted out galvanized pipes that leak...and, you put in a water filter ”to boot”. The value of the homes at Malibu West are surely enhanced...as are the other neighboring homes....
Win/Win/Win...
Thanks to all who made this possible...the land owners, the city planners, the architects, the concerned townspeople who helped to make it better than it might have been. We needed all of you.....
I didn’t lift a finger....
