ANDY WARHOL : Icons & Symbols

He took the world by storm- One of the most important people in contemporary American Art! A fragile creature who discovered a fascinating world- Sheer pictorial power of his images- Represented America's  affair with European ideals!
Every moment " good art is happening " & we are missing it! ' he said-
ANdy wanted to be remembered like Picasso - Motivation was noble he wanted to record the times & leave something for us to ponder upon...
His artwork was in demand in 1963, and he moved his studio to the 3rd floor of an abandoned firehouse- he took an assistant to silkscreen- You see him making a series of decisions how one painting leads to another- Intensely committed and engaged- Action & narrative images- From the Death Paintings of car crashes & disaster series- he was tuned to the immediate moment- "Timing is everything"- he said- its enough life - time for a little death- we should think about it sometime-  Harsh & unnerving  most galleries refused to show them (MLY shows the electric chair) - He over came the obvious liabilities and became someone who put himself in the realm of the blessed-
Andy admired women- 1960's portraits influenced by Cinema-  he started created many paintings undermining ideas of composition and montage and putting units together- increasingly he was interested in Film. He was inspired by the undergroung film scene and started tap with film imagery and tapped into himself being a star and being in the movies- Hi iconic images and themes including Marylins, Liz's, &a rare  Senator Edward Kennedy's personal dimaond dusted signed and autographed copy is on exhibit - All artwork is for sale at MLY Gallery Malibu.
