MALIBU, CA — A Hawthorne man has been identified as the swimmer who died Oct. 24 body boarding a week ago at Thornhill Broome Beach in Malibu, south of Mugu Rock.

Zacharias R. Ang, 49, was pulled out of the water in a state of full arrest by a state lifeguard, Ventura County Fire Department Engineer Mike Des Forges told the Ventura County Star. Des Forges said the swimmer was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Lifeguards performed CPR until firefighters arrived. Ang, who had been camping nearby with his family, was declared dead after about 40 minutes of CPR, according to De Forges.

Earlier in the summer about four miles away, three fishermen were swept out to sea by a sneaker wave just south of Point Mugu, near the intersection of Deer Creek Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Crews of helicopters and boats pulled them out of the water, but they all died shortly after.
