Body Found In Santa Monica Mountains

MALIBU, CA — The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the name of a 21-year-old man who was found dead in the Santa Monica Mountains Tuesday morning.

Alexandre Callay, a Los Angeles resident, was found by hikers on a trail at Sandstone Peak, near Mishe Mokwa, at around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Callay died by suicide, according to Armando Chavez of the medical examiner’s office. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation reported that a suicide note was found on the scene.

After hikers found and reported the body, a team of major crimes investigators flew to the scene, according to Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. The Mishe Mokwa and Sandstone trails were closed for a few hours following the discovery.
