Broad Street Oyster Company. A New and distinct eatery in Malibu

Where else in town can you get an incredible Lobster roll (in a fun, relaxed setting)

Ahoy! Need a place to eat in Malibu…casual? Oysters? Crab claws and extraordinary Lobster rolls? How about salads, crab cakes, even a Beach burger if seafood is not your thing. Exotic beer and wine? Heck, go there for just the fries if you have to...

As a concerned citizen wanting this place to succeed I was worried at first….I just felt uncomfortable about the location. I was worried that people wouldn’t know it was there….stationed, as it is, adjacent to Soul Cycle and along the Malibu Creek just before it crosses PCH. It's not a place you can see from ...anywhere. It's right off Cross Creek but good luck seeing it.....It’s a great space once you find it…open and airy, with seating inside or out….I won’t lie--I have only eaten the lobster roll and the fries (and Mexican cokes) so I can’t speak to the whole menu. The lobster roll is so extraordinary that I can’t get myself to date anything else. Whole lobster claws. You will not likely be disappointed by the amount of lobster in these rolls. Great seasoning…you can get it hot or cold. I always go hot with melted butter and herbs…..The fries are excellent…."steak" type fries…very hearty.

I went in tonight around 6. The place only had a short term lease over the summer (like a “pop up” store lease). They were hedging their bets…and who could blame them. Malibu can be a harsh mistress to commercial businesses, duh. The space was a hamburger joint for a few mintues but that didn’t gain enough steam and it closed after a few months. But, this place was bustling on this night…..nice, subdued lighting…and a quasi-kitschy atmosphere…kind of reminiscent of “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” for any of you who remember that 60’s TV show….if not, then think of a sophisticated version of “Spongebob Squarepants”.

I’m really feeling good about this eatery and it’s ability to find it’s place in the pantheon of Malibu’s food establishments. I want it to succeed. Anytime someone has the courage to take a big risk, pouring their heart and soul into an idea they believe in, hoping that people will appreciate what they bring to the community, then I want to give it a chance….I have given it more than a chance and it has passed all the “chances”. I haven’t developed the courage (yet) to wander into the oyster world but I’m going to think about it.

The owner is Chris. I am going to call him “The Viking”. It’s very easy to see why. He could easily be confused with a male lion. The cook is Alex….They are pictured in this photo….
