Brush Fire Breaks Out At Topanga Canyon Boulevard And PCH
Firefighters have stopped forward progress of the Pacific Fire, which broke out around 1 p.m. Thursday.

MALIBU, CA — Firefighters have stopped forward progress of a fire that broke out Thursday afternoon off Topanga Canyon Boulevard near Pacific Coast Highway.
As of 1:52 p.m., Pacific Coast Highway was shut down in both directions at Topanga Canyon Boulevard due to the firefighting effort. Authorities do not know when it will reopen, according to a SigAlert.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported at around 1:15 p.m. that several units were on scene battling the fire, which covered about a quarter acre at the time. The area has heavy vegetation, providing the fire with a large amount of fuel.

About 10 minutes later, authorities reported the fire had grown to about an acre.
A helitanker had been requested to fly over the blaze, but firefighters canceled that request as they anticipated being able to extinguish the flames with the units on site, according to the department.

The department said that the fire's forward progress had been stopped at around 1:44 p.m. and that no injuries or structure damage had been reported at that time.
The fire has been dubbed the Pacific Fire.
