Firefighter Injured Battling 15-Acre Topanga Fire

A second-alarm fire burning amid dense brush in the Topanga area threatened multiple structures Monday afternoon.

TOPANGA, CA — A brush fire scorched about 15 acres in Topanga Monday, initially threatening some structures before fire crews got the upper hand on the blaze, but one firefighter suffered an unspecified minor injury.

The blaze, dubbed the Flores Fire, broke out near Tuna Canyon Road and Las Flores Heights Road and was burning uphill, according to fire authorities. The blaze was reported shortly before 3 p.m., and it quickly scorched between 15 acres. The fire prompted the closure of the intersection at Las Flores Heights Road and Tuna Canyon Road.

More than 200 firefighters battled the fire with fixed-wing air tankers and helicopters. The Los Angeles county and city firefighters mounted an aggressive attack to hold the fire at 15 acres as of 5 p.m.
