Carwash, Bake Sale to Support Malibu High Football Team's Purchase of Uniforms
The school district does not supply money for uniforms.
A carwash and bake sale will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Heathercliff Road to raise money for new uniforms for varsity football team. This is the first of several events that will take place to collect the estimated $11,000 head coach Ray Humphrey says the team needs to purchase 40 uniforms.
Humphrey said after five seasons of wear and tear, new uniforms are needed in time for the fall season. The uniforms, designed by sophomore football player Brennan Cassone, are slightly more expensive than usual because, Humphrey said, "they’re custom jerseys built to last."
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District only pays for the coach's stipend. Everything else, including uniforms, must be obtained through fundraising.

Malibu High's uniform vendor has a design website.
"Different kids took a shot at doing a design, and we voted on the one we liked best," said Humphrey on how Cassone's design was chosen.

Humphrey said he expects 40 to 50 students to play varsity and junior varsity football at Malibu High this fall. He said the old varsity uniforms would be passed down to the JV team.
All the football players will participate in the carwash. The coach said it should take about five to 10 minutes to wash and rinse each vehicle because there will be so many athletes working on each one.
The carwash will take place at the Arete Estates lot, across the street from the station. A $10 donation is requested for each wash with an optional additional charge for a vacuuming of the vehicle’s interior.
