Co-Existing with Coyotes Teacher Workshop

Co-existing with coyotes teacher workshop; a life science, earth science or ecology program that aligns with the Science Content Standards

The workshop’s goal is to provide our teachers of the Malibu Schools: Malibu High School, Juan Cabrillo Elementary, Our Lady of Malibu School, Webster Elementary and Point Dume Elementary Schools with the most current science information and comprehensive resources on Malibu’s natural habitats and the coyotes around our school neighborhoods. The TEACHERS WORKSHOP PROGRAM will present teachers and others, with short presentations and discussions with: Cami Winikoff - Malibu Community Alliance - Introduction Ranger Cathy Schoonmaker - The Santa Monica Mountains National (RA) Park’s - Coyote Research Wendi Dunn - The health of the coyotes in Malibu Dawn Navarro Ericson - Manta Publications - Art & science together - classroom assignments Additionally teachers will receive a series of classroom worksheets that show educational methods and ideas on how to bring coyote science into the classrooms, while staying within the California Science Content Standards. Provided by the Malibu Community Alliance, each teacher will receive a FREE natural science guide: Wild Neighbors COYOTES, which is edited by the world leading coyote expert: Stanley D. Gehrt, Professor & Wildlife Extension Specialist and the URBAN COYOTE PROJECT. Wild Neighbors COYOTES, a Nature Unfolding science guide is published by MANTA Publications, design-illustrated by Dawn Navarro Ericson. Dawn will provide Coyote Natural Science Drawing workshops at the schools for teachers and students.
