Coastal Staff Supports Sports Field Lights Proposal with Modifications

The California Coastal Commission will vote on the city of Malibu's proposal in Huntington Beach on Oct. 5.

The California Coastal Commission staff has recommended that the 12-member panel on Oct. 5 in Huntington Beach approve the city's request to allow sports field lights at . The recommendation, which was released Friday afternoon, includes some modifications to the city's proposal. It is attached to this article.

The staff recommendation says lights should be allowed:

  • Until 7:30 p.m. during Pacific Standard Time (early November to early March) for a maximum of three nights per week
  • Until 10:30 pm. up to 18 times (but never on two consecutive nights and no more than two nights in one week) from Sept. 1 to May 31

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District would be required to obtain a conditional use permit from the city to install and use lights.
