Dick Van Dyke Crashes Car In Malibu

The 97-year-old actor suffered minor injuries from the crash, according to authorities.

MALIBU, CA — Hollywood icon Dick Van Dyke suffered minor injuries in a car crash last week, authorities said Wednesday.

The "minor" single-vehicle crash occurred on the morning of March 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Paramedics were sent to the scene as a precaution, and an accident report was taken, the sheriff's department reported.

Van Dyke, 97, was driving a 2018 silver Lexus LS 500 when he crashed into a gate on March 15 in Malibu, People reported. The “Mary Poppins” star told police his car slid on the wet streets and he lost control of the vehicle, according to TMZ, which reported he bled from the nose and mouth after the incident, and may have had a concussion, but received treatment from paramedics.

Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, but police did request the DMV retest Van Dyke, citing his age, TMZ reported.

Van Dyke, who has continued to work well into his 90s, appeared last month in the season nine premiere of FOX's “The Masked Singer.” Van Dyke became the oldest contestant to appear on the Fox singing contest.

Van Dyke starred on CBS' "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from 1961 to 1966. "Bye Bye Birdie" launched his movie career in 1963, followed by the hit musicals "Mary Poppins" (1964) and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968).

In 2018, Van Dyke, who has won four Emmys and one Grammy, made a dancing cameo in "Mary Poppins Returns."
