Did You Feel Sunday's Quake In Los Angeles?

There was no major damage and no tsunami risks from the early morning quake that rattled people out of bed.

MALIBU, CA — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck south of Malibu early Sunday morning, rattling people out of bed along the Los Angeles County coast.

The quake struck at 2:29 a.m. about 13.5 miles south of Malibu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no reports of major damage, injuries or tsunami threats from the underwater quake.

Hundreds of people reported shaking, mostly along the Los Angeles County coastline and as far away as Carlsbad and Hemet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It's uncommon for Los Angeles to get quakes much bigger than Sunday's temblor. The region receives only five quakes per year of magnitude 4.0 or larger on average.

The 2:29 a.m. temblor was initially reported with a 4.1 magnitude but was later downgraded.
