Internationally Best-Selling Author Riane Eisler to Speak on Building the Social and Economic Foundations for a More Peaceful and Caring World
On behalf of the SGI Culture of Peace Resource Center*, I would like to invite the Malibu community to attend this free event on Saturday, August 18th at 4 pm in Santa Monica, at the SGI-USA Buddhist Center (1212 7th Street). It is a lecture by world acclaimed author and peacemaker, Dr. Riane Eisler.* Her international bestseller The Chalice and the Blade has been translated into more than 25 languages and her more recent book, The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics has been hailed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu as "a template for the better world we have been so urgently seeking.”
In this lecture which is sponsored by SGI-USA's Culture of Peace Distinguished Speakers Series, Dr. Eisler will discuss steps toward an economy that meets human needs, supports human dignity, nonviolence, and a good quality of life, recognizes women's huge but invisible economic contributions, and promotes the realization of our highest human potentials.
“Part of our higher destiny is to put love into action by challenging unjust authority and violence in both intimate and international relations, by truly caring for ourselves, one another, and our Mother Earth,” says Eisler. “One of my aims is to show how and why economic rules and policies have blocked the expression of this basic human need and what is required to move to an economic system that promotes both human survival and the development of our capacities for caring, meaning, and self-actualization.”

“Ms. Eisler has been leading the global charge to change the conversation of economics to include the word caring,” say series organizer Ian McIlraith. “Furthermore, she has helped ordinary citizens worldwide empower themselves with the knowledge that they can be the protagonists for this paradigm shift by talking about caring economics at home, work, meetings, schools, parties and in public spaces. The Culture of Peace Resource Center is honored to contribute to this movement by providing a space for Ms. Eisler to speak with the local Santa Monica community.”
Free parking is available. A reception and book signing will follow. A limited supply of books is available at the SGI-USA Plaza bookstore (606 Wilshire Blvd). Please see the enclosed posted flier for more details.
