Malibu Mudslide: Lavish Hume Road Home Uninhabitable

The home was red-tagged, deeming it unsafe to occupy or enter, a fire department official said.

MALIBU, CA – A muddy hillside behind a luxurious three-story Malibu home began giving way Wednesday, leaving the building uninhabitable, officials said.

Los Angeles County fire crews were called at 3:46 p.m. to a mudslide in the 2800 block of Hume Road. Part of a backyard fence crumbled away and the sliding terrain reached the rear of the home, although the house itself had not yet moved. Building and safety officials were called to the scene, heavy equipment was requested, and California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to secure the location, according to an LA County fire official.

The home was red-tagged, deeming it unsafe to occupy or enter, a fire department dispatch supervisor said. There were no injuries reported as a result of the mudslide. There didn't appear to be any homes below the slide.
