Golf Cart Collisions In Point Dume Spawn Sheriff's Warning
Children driving golf carts in Malibu's Point Dume has led to trouble in the past, deputies say.
MALIBU, CA — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has issued a safety bulletin following a spate of golf cart collisions in Point Dume.
"A lot of times it's kids driving golf carts," Malibu/Lost Hills Station Sgt. James Arens told Patch. "In the past, we have had crashes with golf carts involving kids. This is more of a reminder — you have to be an adult, you have to be licensed, the vehicle has to be licensed for the road."
Golf carts — and their similar looking cousins, neighborhood electric vehicles or low-speed vehicles — are popular in beachside areas and gated communities. But drivers should be familiar with the laws that dictate where, when, how and by whom these different types of vehicles can be operated.

Rule-breakers should know illegally operated vehicles "can be impounded, the driver can be cited for being an unlicensed driver," Arens said.
