ALL AMERICANS have a shared humiliation at having elected as President a person of such shockingly low character with a remarkable level of psychosis and malfeasance.
It’s an embarrassment to the whole country. We’ve done some horrible stuff over the centuries as a nation—-unspeakable things; things that should have brought collective shame. Electing Trump is the icing on a horrible cake. This man has been wreaking hell on people his whole life and now a nation of fools (the American people) have made him the leader of the free world. It just doesn’t get any more stupid than this.

We will never be the same. In the same way that a family that discovers its own incest will never be the same. The election of Trump uncovered a much deeper and darker disease than even the greatest cynics among us ever suspected. If we survive the Trump Presidency in one piece (no certainty) we will still have the cancer that got him anointed. That cancer will not be cured with the end of Trump—he was like an X-ray that showed us that we had cancer. He’s the symptom, we are the disease! Getting rid of the X-ray won’t get rid of the cancer (though it won't hurt).
The star spangled banner has certainly lost its spangle, forever. It never had it to begin with. It’s all been a giant PR machine from the start.....parades and flags and anthems to mask the corruption and lies and white male privilege. It lulled us to sleep. We let our guard down. You can't let your guard down in a democracy....there are too many greedy and unscrupulous people who are willing to exploit the opportunity. The entire Trump operation is like a parasitic organism that feeds on indifference, ignorance, and complacency.

We ALL need to take part in this democracy—-by speaking out for justice and Truth and against the corruption and power of big corporations that override the tenets of democracy. If you want to see women treated respectfully in our society then you have to speak out when you see any assault on a woman's dignity. If you want a government of truth and not lies then you have to speak out, protest, vote for candidates who don't deceive the public and obstruct justice and collude with enemies, etc... Democracy isn't someone elses responsibility---it is everyone's responsibility.
America has never been “great” if you are black, or a woman, or any number of minorities. It has never been "great" for any of the 10% of our country that is living in poverty, nor for the 30 million who have no health care. It is great if your name is Bezos, or Geffen, or Brady, or Bloomberg. The greatness of a country is not in how many rich people it creates, but how well it treats the poorest of it's citizens. “Great” is a word that should be reserved for greatness. We have a long, long way to go before we can say we are good.
Food for thought.
