County lifeguards shut down Surfrider Beach in Malibu Thursday.

MALIBU, CA — County lifeguards shut down Surfrider Beach in Malibu Thursday afternoon due to the danger posed by lightning in the area.

According to Los Angeles County Beaches and Harbors, the beach was closed at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday in a storm that's brought lightning, hail and even snow to the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu.
