Westward Beach And Zuma Lagoon Cleanup Day Planned — Here's How To Help

The Malibu cleanup is part of a long-running statewide effort to remove trash from the Golden State's beaches.

MALIBU, CA — The city and Heal the Bay are teaming up for a local 2023 Coastal Cleanup Day, as part of a long-running statewide effort to remove trash from the Golden State's beaches.

The Malibu event, set for Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon, will focus on Zuma Lagoon and Westward Beach. Volunteers will meet at Westward Beach by the restroom building on Westward Beach Road.

Officials ask that residents who want to participate bring a bucket or bag, reusable garden gloves, a filled reusable water bottle, sun protection and water/snacks.

As part of the effort to make the event zero-waste, officials ask that people walk, bike or use public transit to get to the site and avoid bringing single-use plastic water bottles.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome; anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants must sign an online waiver or bring a printed form to the event. More information is available on the city's website.
