Malibu Bluffs Park Snack Shack Replacement On The Way

Grilled food served out of a tent is coming to Malibu Bluffs Park by April 22.

MALIBU, CA — The city's plan to get a new, temporary food-service trailer for Malibu Bluffs Park hit a snag this month, but concessions at the park will still get an upgrade in the form of a tent that serves hot food.

The City Council last month voted to pursue a plan to buy a food-service trailer for immediate, temporary use at the park, demolish the existing Snack Shack and draw up plans for a permanent replacement. But red tape got in the way of the first part of that plan, interim Deputy City Manager Rob Houston told the council this week.

"Staff have been working hard on looking at every possible angle to make that goal a success," he said.

To get a trailer permitted by the county Health Department, the city would need to remove the trailer from the property each night and store it at an approved "commissary address" — a professional kitchen where food can be prepared. The logistics of that would make it difficult to achieve in time for the remainder of the Little League season, Houston said.

Instead, the city will erect a tent, similar to those seen at farmer's markets and street fairs, that will be able to serve fresh grilled food. The existing Snack Shack will be used for storage. Houston said the setup should be completed by April 22, when the Little League returns from spring break.
