MALIBU REBUILDS - DEADLINES
The City Council approved several measures to assist fire victims with rebuilding. There are important timelines to pay attention to. Rebuilding non-conforming structures – To rebuild non-conforming homes and structures without having to bring the structure into compliance or seek variances, property owners must apply with the Planning Department by November 8, 2020. Extensions may be requested. Contact the Fire Rebuild team for details.

The Fire Rebuild team is available for complimentary one-on-one consultations about any fire rebuild project. MALIBU REBUILDS – HEIGHT SURVEYS
New homes under construction will be required to submit a Height Survey Certification at framing inspection in order to verify City-approved heights.

CITY MANAGER’S ROUND TABLE - FEBRUARY 3
On Monday, February 3, 11:00 AM residents are invited to come and meet Malibu City leaders at the next City Manager’s Round Table. All community members are invited to join City Manager Reva Feldman and Councilmember Rick Mullen for an informal round table discussion about priority issues affecting Malibu. Anyone is welcome to attend, ask questions, voice concerns, share ideas and get to know your city leaders personally over coffee and pastries. No RSVPs are necessary.
TEMPORARY SKATE PARK
Public Hearing - On Monday, February 3, 6:30 PM at City Hall, the Planning Commission will consider a Coastal Development Permit application for the temporary skate park on Lot 7 of the Case Project (formerly known as the Crummer Project). Updated Temporary Skate Park Conceptual Design - The updated conceptual design for the Temporary Skate Park is available on our website. The City’s temporary skate park design consultant completed the conceptual design based on feedback received during the Public Design Meeting on January 22, and a community survey in October 2019. Members of the public are encouraged to provide feedback regarding the design at the Youth Commission Regular meeting on Monday, February 10 at 6:30 PM, and the Parks and Recreation Commission Regular meeting on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:30 PM. The design will be presented to the City Council for final approval at the Regular Meeting on Monday, February 24 at 6:30 PM. All of the meetings will take place at City Hall.

Youth Commission Beach Clean-up Day
The Harry Barovsky Memorial Youth Commission is holding its semi-annual Environmental Beach Clean-Up Day Event on Sunday, February 9 at 10:00 AM at Zuma Beach, Tower 1. The event is co-sponsored by Heal the Bay and will provide an opportunity for local teens to learn about the environmental, volunteerism and community service while having fun on one of Malibu’s most beautiful beaches. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW BOARD - APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED
The City of Malibu Planning Director is now accepting applications for one appointment to the Environmental Review Board from qualified professionals with technical expertise in one or more of the following areas of expertise: conservation biology, biogeography, botany, ecology or closely related filed that would involve expertise on biological resources, habitat and/or conservation. For more information about this appointment, please review the public notice. The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, February 25 by 5:30 PM. Application forms are available at City Hall or by fax or email if requested from the City Clerk at 310-456-2489, ext. 228, or cityclerk@malibucity.org.
CHUMASH DAY VENDOR - APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED
The application process is now open for arts and crafts and non-profit vendors who are interested in participating in the City’s 2020 Chumash Day Powwow and Intertribal Gathering. Applications are due by March 4. Vendors may apply online.
CIVIC CENTER WAY IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
On February 10, the City Council will consider an appeal of the Planning Commission’s approval of a Coastal Development Permit for the Civic Center Way Improvements Project, which consists of roadway improvements along Civic Center Way between Malibu Canyon Road and Webb Way, along Webb Way between Civic Center Way and Pacific Coast Highway, and on the adjacent City-owned "Triangle" parcel (APNs 4458-020-900 and -004, addressed as 23800 Civic Center Way). The approval was appealed by the City Public Works Department due to seven conditions of approval added to the project by the Planning Commission pertaining to project design and materials which the department contends adversely affect project cost, safety and feasibility. POINT DUME HEADLANDS PROJECT
Trail rehabilitation at Point Dume State Beach (29300 Cliffside Drive) started on January 15, 2020 and is estimated to be completed by April 27, 2020. As the work will primarily be completed with hand tools, the City Manager has authorized extended work hours. LOS ANGELES COUNTY WATERWORKS DISTRICT 29, ENCINAL CANYON WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
Beginning Wednesday January 22, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works’ contractor started performing utility markings and soil borings near the streets of Vista Del Preseas, Camino De Buena Ventura, Avenida De La Encinal, Encinal Canyon Road, Calle De La Burrita, and Avenida Del Mar for the Encinal Canyon project. Minimal traffic impacts are anticipated. For urgent after-hours requests or emergencies, please contact County Public Works Dispatch at 800-675-4357. Mass Evacuation Plan
The Malibu Disaster Council met on January 30, 2020 to review updates to the City’s Mass Evacuation Plan. The Disaster Council recommended that the City Council adopt the draft Plan on the condition that staff continue to refine the evacuation zones, safe refuge areas and communication with the community, especially when there is no electrical power. Further refinements to these segments of the plan will be brought to the Disaster Council at their next meeting slated for June 2020. Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Collection
New Temporary Location! The City’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and E-Waste Collection on February 15, 2020, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM will take place at a new location at 23575 Civic Center Way (aka the Chili Cook-Off lot). Please note this location change is for February only. The HHW/E-waste event will return to its regular location at City Hall in April.
