Malibu High Dominates Cate in Water Polo Games

The varsity and junior varsity Sharks roll to easy victories.

The boys varsity water polo team's first league home game wasn't much of a test. The Sharks won 19-6 in convincing style on Friday afternoon at the "Shark Tank." Malibu scored the first four goals and led 12-1 at halftime. Coach Mike Mulligan was able to give everyone on the team lots of playing time.

Senior Walker Gareri and junior Jordan Clarke led the Sharks in scoring with four goals apiece. Theo Guillemot had three goals and two goals each came from Emmet Pierson, Michael Mitze and Henry Buckley. Shaan McPartlin also scored a goal. Jens Cole, goalie Dane Sartorius, Pierson and Guillemot each had three assists and McPartlin and Guillemot grabbed three steals each.

The junior varsity team had an equally easy time with a 22-2 victory over Cate. The score was 10-0 at halftime and coach Hayden Goldberg was also able to give all the boys plenty of playing time.

The team's leading scorer was Cooper Bell with four goals. Freddy Keith and Alec Wilovsky each had three goals and Arvin Abolfathi, Jake Durrant and John Shaar each scored two goals.

The Sharks next game is at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday at home against Nordhoff.
