Malibu High Singers Travel to Chicago for National Honor Choirs
The girls sing and see the attractions of the Windy City.

Accomplishment: The girls from the Malibu Middle and High School Choral Department were in Chicago last week to sing in two prestigious National Honor Choirs. They were among 300 young people selected from more than 800 national auditions. They are all in the Girls' Select Choir at Malibu Middle School.

Malibu High freshman Martha Thatcher sang in the National Junior High/Middle School Honor Choir for grades 7-9. She was one of 300 selected from among 1,200 applicants.
The girls were accompanied by Amy Loch, choral music director at Malibu High, and parent chaperones Deirdre Fisher, Elizabeth Anthony and Dorothy Reinhold. They rehearsed for four days, followed by a performance at a concert hall in downtown Chicago.

While there, they made time to tour a bit of the city, ride the L, eat at local landmarks and cavort at a famous outdoor public sculpture nicknamed The Bean. A trip highlight was watching the Chicago River being dyed green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
