Malibu High Volleyball Wins League Opener
The Sharks are winning lots of matches this season, while the players enjoy being part of a supportive team.
The girls varsity volleyball team's league opener on Tuesday was a huge success in many ways. The fan support was enormous—parents, students, teachers and friends from as far away as Hawaii made the trip to see their favorite Sharks compete. In the last tournament, Malibu faced Santa Paula in the final round and lost. So the Sharks came to the opener in the Shark Tank with something to prove, exactly who the best team in the league is.
Malibu showcased more than just their great athletic talent and huge heart by defeating Santa Paula in three straight. This team showed another aspect of what makes high school sports and this team so great. It reminded the packed crowd why sports are so important: the friendships you develop with your teammates. The relationships that last your lifetime.
With starting setter Allison Hahn back, the team found a winning rhythm. Outside hitters Gigi Hadid, Paige Stoker, Carleigh Madden and Makenzie Kizis owned the court, hitting kill after kill. Amara Gwyn dominated the middle of the court, stopping spike after spike and destroying several well-placed middle sets. Coral Silverberg, Logan Beitler and Lara Kiefer were explosive on defense and kept the fans in awe with defensive saves and great serves.
