Malibu Locals Participate In Saturday's Women's March

MALIBU, CA — Malibu locals spoke out against Texas' six-week abortion ban Saturday as hundreds of thousands of people hit the streets across the country.

Saturday's nation-wide activism was organized by the Women's March Foundation, the movement made famous by their massive march following former president Donald Trump's 2017 inauguration. KTLA reported there were over 600 Women's March events across the country this weekend to advocate for women's reproductive rights.

Malibu's participants stood at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) and Webb Way, holding signs as cars passed by. The event in Malibu was a "sister march" to the main event in Washington, D.C.

This year's march took aim at the Texas abortion ban, which allows private citizens to sue anyone who helps a woman obtain an abortion after six weeks, including the clinic or a person who drives the woman to the clinic. It does not provide exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

"Here we are again, having another moment where we demand to be heard, because the stakes have never been higher," actor Rosanna Arquette said at a march in downtown Los Angeles. "What have we learned since we were last together, that equal rights have a ceiling. We learned that despite all our promises for protecting Roe v. Wade, all our rights could be obliterated with the stroke of a corrupt governor's pen."
