Malibu Middle And High School Go Digital Tuesday For COVID-19
Because of a high number of positive cases from back-to-school testing, Malibu Middle and High schools moved to remote instruction Tuesday.
MALIBU, CA — Malibu Middle and High schools moved to remote learning Tuesday as early results from Sunday's back-to-school testing showed a high percentage of positive cases.
Based on only a partial report of Sunday's testing, the schools had around 20 positive cases combined, a significant number considering the schools have 682 students enrolled. These results are only partial for Sunday's testing, with more results coming Tuesday after school would have started.
The schools are expected to reopen Wednesday, giving administrators time to identify additional positive cases, according to an announcement from the principals of both schools. The school will offer drive through testing Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower parking lot of the Malibu Middle and High school campus, 30215 Morning View Drive.

"We know that this type of change is very disruptive and could have an impact on child supervision, parent employment, and other plans. We also know the timing of this decision is not ideal but we are continuing to respond to information we receive in real time. The health and safety of students and staff are integral to the work we do. Our goal is to best ensure the continuity of in-person instruction as we continue to navigate this ongoing pandemic," said Melisa Andino, principal of Malibu Middle School, and Patrick Miller, principal of the high school.
