Malibu Minimum Wage Will Increase To $16.90 In July
Malibu's minimum wage workers will see their second annual cost of living wage adjustments with a 5.9 percent increase.

MALIBU, CA — Malibu minimum wage workers will see their second annual cost of living increase in July, according to the city.
The first annual cost of living update in 2022 brought Malibu minimum wage to $15.96. California's minimum wage became $15.50 on Jan. 1, 2023. The increases are part of an ordinance adopted by the city in 2016, which gradually brought the city's minimum wage to $15 and prescribed Consumer Price Index increases after.
"The ordinance [was] established ... with the purpose of avoiding wage discrepancies between Malibu and neighboring jurisdictions, keeping Malibu competitive in the job market, helping to ensure that workers in Malibu are paid adequate living wages, and preventing workers from leaving Malibu for higher paying jobs, which also helps reduce traffic on local streets and Pacific Coast Hwy," the city said on its website.

Increases are calculated annually using the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index, considering the 12-month percent change for urban wage earners and clerical workers in the Los Angeles, Long Beach and Anaheim areas.
Last year's increase represented a 6.4 percent cost of living adjustment, bringing Malibu's minimum wage from $15.00 to $15.96.
