Malibu Parents Awarded $45M After Lawsuit Claiming Abuse Of Twin Boys

MALIBU, CA – The parents of nonverbal twin boys with autism have been awarded $45 million after filing a lawsuit claiming their sons were physically abused by employees at their Malibu elementary school, according to an ABC7 report.

Charles and Nadine Wong’s lawsuit claimed that the abuse took place at Juan Cabrillo Elementary School in 2017, when the twins were both 8-years-old, ABC7 reported.

According to the report, the Wongs claimed that after multiple school employees — including a bus driver — reported their sons’ abuse, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District officials did not notify authorities.

"Nothing is — or ever could be — more important to us than the safety and security of all students,” Dr. Ben Drati, the superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, said in a statement, according to ABC7. “Our ongoing dedication to our special needs students is paramount to the success of our district as a whole, and we are committed to making sure that nothing like what has been claimed here could ever happen in the future.”
