Malibu High School Student Caroline Pietryzk Captures Crown at Mt. Sac

Pietryzk is ranked seventh fastest runner in Division IV in the Sate of California.

Malibu High School cross-country sensation Caroline Pietryzk, finished first in the Girl’s Sophomore Division IV & V combined race at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational on Friday.

Pietryzk, who is ranked as the seventh fastest runner in Division IV in California, had been battling an injury the past few weeks.

The sophomore covered the hilly three-mile course in 19:33, to finish over a minute-and-a-half ahead of the second place finisher. Sophomore Carmen Flood finished 15th, with a time of 22:42 earning a medal for her efforts. Teammate Jenna Weinberger was 127th place finisher. There were 148 runners in the race.

Freshman Charlotte Jackson medaled in the Girl’s Freshman Division IV & V race finishing fourth out of 168 runners with a time of 21:12.  Junior Deisy Villasenor took 119th place in the junior varsity race.

Junior Dyer Pettijohn led the Sharks to a 19th place team finish in the Boy’s Varsity Division IV race finishing 61st in 18:44. Junior Aiden Pascuii took 70th in 18:57, followed by Junior Erik Rosenberg (90th), Senior Scott Wesson (120th), Junior Linus Gordon (147th) and Senior James Gordon (160th). Don Bosco High School won the Division IV race with 73 points.

Freshman Khoi Prakasim took 35th place out of 154 runners in the Boy’s Freshman Division IV race with a time of 20:14. Sophomore Andreas Jensen took 131st place in the Boy’s Sophomore Division IV race.

Earlier this month, Pietryzk won the Sophomore Division IV & V Girl’s race at Mt. San Antonio College with an impressive time of 19:33 on the challenging course. Earlier in the season she set a new course record for sophomore girl’s after winning the her division at the Woodbridge Invitational.

The Waves will travel to Lake Casitas on Friday, Oct. 26 for the Ventura County Championships beginning at 3:30 p.m.
