Malibu Prepares For Fourth of July; Issues Safety Reminders
City officials have issued reminders about how residents and visitors can celebrate Independence Day safely.

MALIBU, CA — As Malibu prepares for a busy Fourth of July weekend, city officials have issued the following safety reminders:
- Fireworks are illegal in Malibu, and no permits have been issued for any fireworks displays in the city
- Don’t drink and drive — designate sober drivers and use rideshares or taxis.
- Keep your eyes on the road — don’t text and drive.
- Slow down and watch for pedestrians and cyclists on PCH and cars pulling in and out of beach parking.
- Pack it in, pack it out — dispose of your trash in trash containers, and if you see litter, please pick it up and throw it away in a trash container.
- Alcohol, dogs and fires are prohibited on beaches in Malibu.
“We urge all visitors who come to enjoy Malibu’s natural beauty to help keep our roads and beaches safe and clean and honor our efforts to protect our community’s safety, peace and quality of life,” Mayor Bruce Silverstein said in a release.
The Sheriff's Department Beach Team patrol Malibu beaches over the summer looking for people consuming alcohol (which is illegal — even if you're hiding it in a cup). The aim is to reduce drunk driving on Pacific Coast Highway and canyon roads. The effort also includes the deployment of extra deputies looking for road-safety issues.

The Mountains and Recreation & Conservation Authority has ramped up patrols in state parks all summer. And Malibu makes a habit of requesting additional patrols by the Sheriff's Department and sheriff's volunteers to help direct traffic and monitor the city for crime.
