Malibu Sharks Warm up for New Season

The Sharks basketball team gets some practice with a scrimmage against Fillmore High School.

Malibu High’s Boys basketball teams warmed up on Monday night with scrimmages against Fillmore High’s basketball teams at Malibu High.

While celebrating a perfect 10-0 League Championship last year, the varsity team is rebuilding this year after the departure of five seniors. In addition, the team was rewarded with promotion to the Tri-Valley League where the boys will play heavyweights Oaks Christian and Oak Park.

On Monday night, the Sharks shook off some early season rust as the team came together for the first time with a number of players joining the team from fall sports. The team will be led by returning starters juniors, Justin Holmes, Anthony Kodomichalos and senior, Will Rosenthal. Kodomichalos takes over the point guard role, while larger roles are expected from returning senior, Andrew Yazdani and junior, Brian Salcedo.

The Sharks open their season in a tournament at St. Monica’s next week, with their home opener on Dec. 5 against Pacifica Christian.
