Malibu's 'Manners Matter' Wraps Up Pilot Program For Children

The Boys & Girls Club of Malibu made a splash with its first program that teaches kids the foundations of manners, respect and kindness.

To help young children learn how to engage with their peers, parents and mentors in more diplomatic and peaceful manner, the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu introduced a summer pilot program this year, which culminated with a luau celebration on Thursday.

MALIBU, CA — To help young children learn how to engage with their peers, parents and mentors in more diplomatic and peaceful manner, the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu introduced a summer pilot program this year, which culminated with a luau celebration on Thursday.

Manners Matter aims to teach children manners, respect and kindness that will benefit them throughout adulthood, according to the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu.

The club invited students from Kindergarten through 5th grade to participate in the program, which offered hands-on experience to develop appropriate ways to engage with peers, mentors, teachers, family members and more.

The program aimed to accomplish the following:

● Support social, emotional, cognitive, academic development
● Reduce risky behavior
● Promote physical and mental health
● Foster an environment of warmth and inclusivity
● Teach respectful ways of engagement

More than two dozen children participated in the program and the luau wrap up party, which featured Polynesian dancers. Children even had the chance to learn a few dance moves.

After a successful run, the program will move ahead to expand to middle school and high school members, according to the club.
