THE MEDIA HAS US EATING OUT OF THEIR HANDS
Why are we so lifeless and thoughtless and indiscriminate about what we think about and believe.

The citizens of this country AND President Obama focus on social issues that the media DIRECTS us to focus on....
We let the Media guide us through our lives..they determine what we focus on ......oftentimes the random events that catch the media's radar for titillation....crocodile eating babies, Kardashian's, etc...keep in mind that the Kardashian's are a Media creation 100%.
Twice as many white people are shot by police as black....hispanics are shot at the same rate as blacks...yet, cell phones are recording police brutality against blacks (and it is reprehensible and tragic) but they aren't recording police brutality against whites and hispanics...or women for that matter....imagine how many abuses take place against women by the police, sexual and otherwise....So, because of the media, we are sensitized to some things but not others....

THE MEDIA IS CREATING A FALSE AND DISTORTED NARRATIVE OF AMERICAN LIFE.
The media decides what we focus on.....they could have us focusing on cruelty towards chickens if they showed enough cell phone video of it and everyone sent in videos they had taken chronicling the abusive behavior towards chickens...Obama would eventually have to hold a press conference on chicken abuse and say "Enough is enough...we need so start treating chickens with some dignity, the way poultry deserves to be treated.? This is not to make light of the widespread racial discrimination that is perpetrated more commonly on the African American community. I acknowledge that...but that is no excuse for the way the media shapes our collective psyche.

I'm not even joking....things that happen as frequently as a lightning strike are treated as if they happen everywhere all the time (BY THE MEDIA).
The media has recently been pounding this ridiculous story about a Playboy model who took a photograph of an overweight lady at a gym....really? There are 340 million people in this country and the action of this one girl at a gym is NEWS?
nothing could be more insignificant...but if other people send in similar photos to the media and they show repeated stories of fat people at the gym then President Obama will have to call a press conference or "state of emergency" over the treatment of overweight people in our society....
There are a zillion snapshots of the World going on at any given moment...some happy, some sad, some encouraging, some depressing....the media will select from that vast supply of snapshots based on what will get you most provoked and interested....and from there...many of us will be emotionally lifted, more often enraged, wanting retribution, etc., by the media's choices. Too often it will be totally out of proportion with reality. I think it is fair to say that the media created an environment where the Dallas and Baton Rouge police officers were killed. They stoked the fires....they incited retaliation.....they made it look like every black person in America was on the cusp of being killed by the police. If they had shown that whites die more at the hands of police than blacks, or that hispanics die at the same rate as blacks.....this might have offered some opportunity at proportionality and perspective. But, the media is indifferent to all that....they worship only one God. The God of $$$.
The Media has incredible control...more than any Televangelist....and they decide what slice of AMERICAN LIFE we will see. And, yes, their ONLY motivation is PROFIT.....pleasing the stockholders. Nothing gets to our eyes and minds without the media's directive and they have no interest in your welfare, society, ethics, your children, etc....period! They are just like the NRA in that way...no better, no worse...they both want money in their pockets. The only difference is that the media (pretends) to be a moral and ethical institution that cares about you....remember Brian Williams of NBC being suspended for embellishing a story...lots of journalists do this...
Mass shootings kill about 450 per year in this country....out of 340 million! More people die each year because of collisions with deer. About 25 people a day (on average) die from being killed by a drunk driver. We don't focus on all of those deaths (though maybe we should because 25 per day is a lot). There are 44 murders each day on the streets of America. We don't highlight each of those...though we could. If we focused on each and every one of those we would get the idea that the streets are unsafe and we need to wear bullet proof attire and carry a handgun. But, once again, in a country of hundreds of millions of people, 44 murders a day is a grain of sand on the beach...not something to be proud of.....but light years from Armageddon. And, about 170 police officers are killed each year...that rate has been going down for years......so, 7 murdered policeman is tragic, but it is not reflective of a trend that is affecting even a tiny slice of policeman in this country. If you go to a big party with lots of people, and you focus on a couple sitting in the corner arguing, and someone asks you about the party you might be tempted to say that "people were arguing" when, in fact, that was a very small slice of what was going on at the party.
How you frame and depict evens is often more powerful than the event itself.
But, by contrast, there is a trend in this country that gets very little media attention...and NO attention by our President, or any President, ever. It will affect 40 million people directly and they all happen to be women or girls. Repeated studies show that between 1 in 4 and 1 in 5 women and girls will be raped over the course of their lives.......now THAT is a trend that everyone should be worried about...yet, the media is focusing on absolute minutiae in the overall scheme. They are getting us to think that the world is on fire over race relations....The media has been stoking the ashes of the death for years now...Trayvon Martin, etc.. Trayvon Martin died tragically in an altercation with one other human on this planet...it is not a trend, or a scientific study, or anything more than an isolated event between two people, albeit one that ended in death. It is not a reflection of widespread homicide taking place between blacks and whites.
People (you and me) are led around by the nose by the media.....we are like circus elephants....the dangerous thing is that we think we are in control, but we aren't. They have us drinking the Koolaid and we don't even know it.
